Russian Federation

The Russian Federation is 1.8 times the area of the US and occupies most of eastern Europe and north Asia. It stretches from the Baltic Sea in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east and from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the Black Sea and the Caucasus, the Altai, and Sayan Mountains, and the Amur and Ussuri Rivers in the south. It is bordered by Norway and Finland in the northwest, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania in the west, Georgia and Azerbaijan in the southwest, and Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, and North Korea along the southern border.

The capital city is Moscow, the currency is the Ruble and language is Russian .

A population of 144,526,278 in 21 republics occupy  a total land area of 6,592,735 sq mi (17,075,200 sq km) .

The climate ranges from steppes in the south through humid continental in much of European Russia; subarctic in Siberia to tundra climate in the polar north; winters vary from cool along Black Sea coast to frigid in Siberia; summers vary from warm in the steppes to cool along Arctic coast. At 60° N, 100° E.

The terrain is broad plain with low hills west of Urals; vast coniferous forest and tundra in Siberia; uplands and mountains along southern border regions.
