El Capricho in Comillas - Cantabria Spain

Cantabria Slide Show

Built by Antoni Gaudí from 1883 to 1889 for Máximo Diaz de Quijano (a wealthy business man), El Capricho (literally "the whim") is one of several Catalan Modernista buildings in Comillas (a charming town, perched above the sea, and the summer home of the Spanish royal court in the 19th century).
This page is devoted to El Capricho with it´s Mudéjar-inspired tower. Taken in September 2002, the photos are a study of the house and its features, from its hillside view over the town to a close up of the wonderful green and yellow tiles that are integral to the design. The interior is now a restaurant with a creative menu prepared from the freshest ingredients of the area. It is well worth a visit for a meal or some tapas and wine and the opportunity to see the well preserved design features of the interior.
